A PERSON WHO PREFERS LAUGHTER. I try to look at the world as comedy rather than tragedy. I am almost always having fun with even the simple things in life, trying to find the little pockets of joy in whatever garment I wear.
I AM ONE OF THE FEW PEOPLE IN THE WORLD WHO ADMITS TO LOVING TELEVISION. I love it so much I earned a doctoral degree in its study. Now, I do it just for the enjoyment. I have satellite TV with every movie channel plus Netflix, Hulu, Acorn. My living room is referred to as the First Church of Buffy. But I most enjoy watching TV and movies with a partner.
I HAVE TWO ADULT SONS WHO HAVE AUTISM and what used to be called mental retardation. They live at home with me, and will until I can find a wonderful place for them to go. I am relatively free, as I have in home care for them regularly from 8am-10pm, and with a little planning, after 10 until . . . My boys are a hoot, truly the funniest Autistic guys around. They are my first line of defense against taking life too seriously. The other? My dogs.
I HAVE A HUGE HEART and cannot turn down a fuzzy who is on his way to the chamber--that's how I ended up with 4 dogs and a foster: ages 14, 12, 9, 7 and 3 (the foster). They crack me up regularly! And I adore all my goofies, 2 and 4 legged. My local extended family is a group of Aggies who work with the boys and look after all of us. There is a lot of love here.
I AM 60, SHORT, "CURVY" (this site's term for being round), smart, friendly, considerate, loving, up for fun, and lots of other good things. If you are looking for Barbie, she doesn't live here. I do exercise regularly but I am what I am.
I HAVE NO EXPERIENCE WITH CAMPING, hiking, or other outdoor activities; I've been a city girl all my life. I'm willing to try and to learn new things, but to me "roughing it" is a hotel with no HBO! I do refuse to kill things--I would never stop weeping. But if you kill it, I'll eat it!
MUSIC IS A CONSTANT IN MY LIFE. I love classic jazz; Sinatra is still my main man. I revel in live music performances of almost all kinds, and I'm just learning to understand and enjoy hiphop and rap. A dirty martini in a dive listening to a saloon singer is a dream. I love to sing. I've been known to join in to the oldies playing in Kroger and not in soto voce! I TRAVEL TO NYC AT LEAST ONCE A YEAR to engage in a Broadwaypalooza--6 shows in 4 days. I also attend OPAS and The Theatre Company with the occasional touring company thrown in. And (fanfare), I have seen Hamilton 2 times, with another coming up. I will never be the same.
I'M A RELATIVELY SIMPLE PERSON, ONE WHO NEVER LEARNED TO LIE OR PLAY DATING GAMES. My husband died at his own hand almost 4 years ago and I really do know how short and precious life is. Loss will change you; I am choosing over and over to change for the better. I have my sad moments, and I let those play out. I am not at all good at masking my feelings--I thoroughly suck at poker. I am right now a doubting Jew, more cultural than religious, and I am curious about and respectful of others' beliefs. I hope they will be of mine as well.
MY WRAPPING MAY NOT BE TOP DRAWER AT MARSHAL FIELD'S, but once unwrapped, I can be a joy. I am what I am. All the way through.
PS. I'm also a 32 year Cubs fan, still languishing in the World Series Championship. GO CUBS GO!
