Have you noticed as you’ve read through various profiles posted on this or other dating sites, how many of the profilers mention the same things over and over, in exactly the same words, when describing themselves or the persons with whom they would like to connect? They go on and on about how they are “honest,” “loyal,” “intelligent,” “attractive,” “compassionate,” yada, yada, yada.
Such “canned clichés” are convenient to plug in and use, but provide no real help in gaining an understanding of the true nature of the person using them, and they’re unreliable. For that reason, I have chosen to omit such broad, overused and self-serving adjectives from my profile.
Instead, I will be direct and to the point in addressing the two key questions of who I am and what it is I seek. Simply stated, the answers are as follows: I’ve been on my own for several years now as a result of a divorce, albeit a consensual and amicable one. I’m fairly independent, and I’m comfortable with being on my own. I have many outside interests and friends that keep me busy.
But I miss having a love in my life. Someone with whom I can experience joy, build new and lasting memories, laugh, and cry. Someone who, merely by being present, will turn ordinary occasions into unforgettable events. Someone who will make sparks fly again! Could that someone be you?
