I am 65 years old, physically petite, & holding my age reasonably well. I am a passionate gardener, I love to read, sew, do crafts, woodwork & am as self sufficient as I can manage. I also love animals & always have them sharing my home.

I raised a large family who are all off living their own lives, which is as it should be. I have 7 grandchildren spanning 25 years. My youngest grandson & my great grandson were both born in 2006.

I am not interested in sports & could not care less about the Olympics. I enjoy a good dinner in a fine restaurant, dancing but rarely watch movies on TV & haven't been in a theatre in close to 20 years. I am the only person I know who has not seen Titanic or the da Vinci Code. The only reason I read the book da Vinci Code was I thought that with all the hoopla about it soon or later it had to get more interesting, but it never did.

I have done a fair amount of traveling in foreign countries & am a bit of a culture shock junkie but camping leaves me cold, literally. I figure humans moved out of the bush & down from the trees a long time ago & don't see much point in moving back.

I am addicted to thrift shops, yard sales, flea markets & the like. To me they are a treasure hunt because you never know what you will find. It is the old "One man's garbage..." story.

I was an ardent recycler back before they had a word for it or the public means of doing it. I repaired, reused, & recycled anything possible & have always take some pride in how little I add to the landfill.

I am fairly laid back, patient but if I feel I have a reason I tend toward a slow burn rather than explode over things. Except for the occasional glass of wine over dinner I don't drink & have a zero tolerance for heavy drinkers or drug users or bigots, but I do smoke cigarettes.

It may sound like an oxymoron but I am an extroverted loner; at ease in crowds but quite comfortable with my own company. Alone & lonely are not synonymous.

I have graduated both college & a couple of trade schools while expanding my education thru reading non-fiction. My favourite TV programs are documentaries. While my taste in music is fairly eclectic my favourite is New Country.

I place enormous value on trust, loyalty, honesty, reliability & dependability. I give these qualities & accept no less in return. My family comes from a Mennonite background but I do not have a religious affiliation. I like to dress well but take some pride in being able to do it on a shoestring.

I like a man to be secure in his own skin, sure of himself & successful in life according to his definition of the word. Success does not always mean money but it does offer choices not available otherwise.

That is all I can think of for now.

To do the best I can with the means available to me, with as little a negative impact on the planet as I can manage, when s*%t happens, (since a little usually does) to be thankful I am better off than millions of others, be helpful when I am needed & be as little nuisance & pain in the butt to the people around me as possible. Our only true legacy after we are gone are the memories we leave behind & I would hope they will be pleasant ones but that essentially depends on me.

Mijn Idee Van Plezier is

I love traveling to places very different from where I live, exploring ancient ruins, intense conversation that may occasionally turn to debate, wandering around flea markets, yard sales, thrift & antique shops.

I love to laugh but while my humor can be sardonic or a little sarcastic it is never blue & I don't like slapstick because you can see the punchline coming a mile off so it isn't funny. I also don't see any humor in someones humiliation & don't understand why anyone would watch the program Punked.

I enjoy spending the whole evening having a good dinner in a nice restaurant with intelligent interesting company. A little dancing occasionally would be nice.

I enjoy going to botanical gardens or just walking my dog. I like crafts, woodworking, cross word puzzles, oil painting & reading.

I look for mature masculinity without machismo, secure enough with himself & within his own skin that there is no need to strut like a bantie rooster. I look for a gentleman with compassion & empathy who knows how to laugh, doesn't take himself too seriously & how to treat a lady.

Tall, dark & handsome would be a bonus but not a requirement. I'm not a raving beauty either. The important thing is who they are on the inside.

I don't know if I am supposed to say this but I have zero tolerance for drunks, substance abusers, deviants, gamblers, dirty mouths & filthy minds. The first 4 have caused me enough heartache &, in my opinion, if a person can't speak without profanity or reference to biological functions they have nothing to say worth listening to anyway.
